MONOWAI ARRIVES TO-DAY. The Monowai is due this morning from Lyttolton, and will berth at No. 1 Queen's Wharf. She has on board the following passengers:—For Wellington—Mesdanles Drewetto, Collins, Olair and child. Misses Drewette, Olaucey, Carter, Ramsay (E), Hamlin, 'Messre. Jeffreys and boy, Colline. For Napier—Mrs. Moir, Meesre. ifoir, Anderson. Jackson. For Gisborne—Mr. Kanger. For Auckland—Mesdamcs Ward, Siuclair, M'Kay, Sutton, Jackson, Jlerrie. Misses Henwood, Ogston, Messrs. Merrie, M'Adam, Pritohard; and seven steerage for all ports. In her new running bhe will sail at 2 p.m. to-morrow for Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland, returning .U* Wellington on Friday next and sailing the same day for south.
■ . HIMITANGI FOE CHATHAMS. After a delay of twenty-fonr days the Himitangi sailed yesterday at 2.30 p.m. for the Chatham Islands. She had a full cargo and a number of passengers. At the Iβlands a cargo of fish will be loaded for Wellington, but it has not yet been decided whether the return trip will be direct or via Lyttelton.
HINBMOA SAILS. ,At 3.30 p.m. yesterday, the Hinenioa left .Wellington with relief stores ' for the people of Kaikoura. , She is to sail from Kaikoura this afternoon witli stores and provisions for the Brothers lighthouse, . and to renew the gas supply at Jackson Head beacon and Okuri Point and Karori Kock lights, returning to Wellington on Friday. It Is expected that she will leave on Monday next for the northern lighthouses.
MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Dr. .F. Thian, surgeon in the Blackball Coal Company's service, has come ashore at Wellington. t Mr. E. Jackson has joined the ITanourika as second officer. Mr. J. M'Phorson, third engineer on a Blackball Coal Company's steamer, has left the vessel. Captain 1\ G. Enstbcr. 8.N., who died at Diinedin ou Sunday last, was for a number p£ years in the service ol the Union Steam Ship Company, from which ho retired on reaching the atre limit. . Captain Colin M'Donald. marine superintendent for the Union Steam Ship Company, has returned to Dunedin fiom a business visit to Auckland and Wellington. Mr. D. Morrison, of the Union Comfiany's head offico staff, in at present actas manager of the company's New Plymouth branch during tho temporary absenco of Mr. P. N. Jeffries. Mr. C. L. M'Adam, of the Union Company's Auckland office Bta.fl, who has 'been on holiday leave in Dunedin, is returning by the Monowai this trip to Auckland.
The Kittawa, is due here this morning from Westport, and tho Komata. will leave to-day. Both vessels have full cargoes of coal for this port. The Corinna is due on Friday from New Plymouth, and it Sβ probable that she will return to the Taranaki port. The Kini will leave, to-morrow for Greymouth. ' ■ . To-day the Bosamond will load cement at Tarakohe for Wellington, where she- ts due to-morrow. In the afternoon she will sail for Wanganui and New Plymouth. The Huia sailed last night for Ti anganui,' and is duo back to-morrow nomine. She will 1 sail to-morrow evening for Wanganui and New Plymouth. The Breeze left Lyttclton early yrstcrday afternoon, and is due here this morning, berthing at No. 1 (north) Cueeu's Wharf on arrival. She- will Bail at S p.m. to-day for Wanganui. The.Magiu arrived yesterday ncining from Sandy Bay, and will leave to-mor-row on the return trip to load another cargo of stone for Wellington. . The Kapiti came off the slip yesterday morning, and her placo was taken by the Invercarglll, which will come off to-day. The Mana, recently bought by the New Zealand Refrigerating, is to go on the slip at Lyttelton shortly for ovorhaul. The Storm will now not come to Wei-' lington as had been previously arranged, and she will to-day load timber at Kydia Bay for Lyttelton. It may be that San Francisco ehipping men will raise another steamer from the bottom 6i the tropical Pacific. The vessel in this instance is the German gunboat Cormoran, which was blown np by her crew at Guam when war was declared against Germany. The Cormoran was built in Germany for tho Rossian volunteer fleot, had been in service only a few months when war was declared, and was named theßjesan. She was one', cf the first victims of the raidor Emden, and after beinir taken by the Germans was converted into a cruiser herself. Details as to her condition and the depth of water she lies in arn being gathered for the purpose of deciding whether it will be possible to raise her profitably. '
