LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

THE SECOND DIVISION ! Sir,—l have been hoping day by day to read some correspondence in your paper, protesting against the attitude taken up by the 60-called representatives of the Second Division. Surely these individuals are not supported by tho bulk of the married men in this country! One would have thought that they would have been satisfied with forcing tho Government to grant pensions And allowances on a scale never known .before in the -world's history. Not a bit of it. They are still hard at it, with all sorts of ridiculous demands, which surely the Government will have the backbone to resist, and in doing so they will have the support of all reasonable men. I have neither the time nor the space to go into these demands. I need only.instance their attempt to dictate as What oflicers shall bo appointed to command the reinforcements in which they are going to risk their precious lives. _ The ieneral opinion in this camp is this that the Second Division League believe that they have the Government under their t umb, and can force them to do what thev p oase. What would have happened to Empire if the mamedw in England had taken up the same stand a! these worthy people? Sufficient men could not have been obtained to carry on the war. let them stop agitating for their ownselfish aims and set into i, so that no one need ashamed of belonging to their section of the community—l am, etc., . A MEMBER OF THE 2nd DIVISION. Trentham.
