The programme committee set up to .mako arrangements for the "Nelson Day!' entertainment (on October 19) reported that all details had been attended to. Tho entertainment would take place in the Town Hall. The combined schools' choir (under Mr. Robert Parker), which gave such a splendid concert recently, would give several items of an nppro- - pirate character. Sir. Joseph ar<l was being approached to deliver an. address suitable to the occasion, and Mies Townshend, of Blenheim, would be among the contributing vocalists., Miss Towiishend, it-'mny be remembered, was the sole New Zealand survivor in the Princess of lieland disaster on the St. Lawrouco River .(Canada).' A. feature of the Vveilingwould be the passing of a resolution expressive of the unshakeable faith of. New Zealand in the British Navy as the. nation's first line of defence. '. As Nelson Day falls properly on a Sunday, it was decided that the churches 6honld be approached with n view to suitable references being made to the valour and spirit of sacrifice that .were being shown by all branches of the British Naval Forces, including the mercantile marine. A request is to be made that fln*s shall be flown wherever tliero are pole's to uy them on Nelson Day. \ communication was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs, Kivinjj the league permission to mako a street collection in aid of King George's Fun« for Sailors and their Dependants on "bailors Day" (November 16). The Christchurch branch wrote asking the local branch's assistance and support in connection with the. .exhibition' in AVellington of a special naval.picture, entitled "It Is For England." The request met with the approval.of the committee. 1 October "15 was fixed as the date of .the annual meeting of the Wellington branch of the league. The meeting is to beheld in the Concert Chamber, and Mr. J. .'P.. Firth is to bo approached to deliver an address appropriate to the occasion. A. sub-committee set up to interview the Minister of Education and the Education Board on the subject of inculcating the spirit of patriotism in our. schools reported that the Minister was in accord with the proposal, and 'had advocated the issue of a text-book on the subject. Further details, affecting the suggestion are to lie gone into later, and the subject is to receive the consideration ■ of ■ the ieadmnsters' Association of AVellington. Tho Ladies' Auxiliary reported.that it had received further contributions of gramophone records for', use on H.M. ships, and that the leagues spinnery had been kindly granted the use of rooms mi Lambtou Qmiy by Mr. Robert Hannah.
