A Lyttelton resident has received private advice from a friend in Sydney that there ie- no foundation in the rumours that have arisen in connection with-.the Antarctic oxploring vessel Aurora, which is repotted to be missing. The writer (says the) "Lyttelton Times") stated that he had received a letter from a relative on the vessel, posted from a certain port, stating' that tho Aurora was sailing under eealed orders. Owing to tho condition of the river (says the Gisbornc 'Times"), the draft of tho Maui is proving to be too (treat for expeditious or satisfactory working, and it is now proposed to have the vessel lightened by the removal of her bucket ladder and by the caulking up of the hoppers. It is. stated that were the proposals given effect to the draft would, be lessened by two feet, which would\ enable tho drixlgo to carry out her work more effectively. Mr. Chas. Callis has joined the Maori as pursor.
