NEW GERMAN ARMY

f FOR DASH ON PETROGRAD

POSSIBILITIES DISCUSSED SHIPPING LOSSES'SHOW FURTHER DROP ITALIANS PREPARING FOR NEXT BIG ADVANCE The war dispatches to-day disolose no new developments in the general situation. No doubt owing to the bad weather in Australia the news is scanty. A dispatch from.the "Morning Post's" correspondent at' Petrograd states that tho Germans are trying to raise a new army for their, dash on Petrograd, and are scraping men together from everywhere, even going to the length of .replacing the'interior garrisons with Turkish soldiers. The prospects of this much-discussed "dash" are considered to be problematical. On the Western front the lull continues. One of the British correspondents on the Italian front states that on both sides on. the Isonzo battle line the contest is in a sfeite of suspense, each belligerent busily preparing for the next big effort, and racing to complete ,and strike first. Local offensives, of course, occur daily, invariably to the disadvantage of the Austrians. The new French Cabinet has been accorded an overwhelming vote tif confidence by ithe Chamber of Deputies. The German reply to the Pope's Peace Note has arrived in Rome, but nothing has been published yet as to its tenor. In the Argentine the Senate has voted in favour of a break with Germany.
