MAGISTRATE'S COURT

POLICE AND CIVIL CASES. Mr. 8. E. H'Carthy, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, and 1 heard the police cases. Claude Dogmar Page was charged with disobeying an order in reßpeot to the maintenance of his wife, the arrears amounting 'to £26 Is. Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared for the informant. The defendant, in his evidence, stated that during the past six months ho had had about six weeks' work at 255. a week. When the order was mado he was in the employ of Mr. Castle, ohemiet, as an assistant chemist at £3 6s. per week. He left Mr. Castle's employ because ho was afraid of making mistakes in prescriptions, as he was considerably worried over hia domestic affairs. Ho went to Christchurch and got a job as a (porter at a hotel at 25b per week, and was there for five weeks He admitted not having paid anything in rospect of maintenance since the order was made. . The defendant was convicted ana sentenced to six months' imprisonment, warrant not to issuo unless applied for by 'the informant. . William Barolay Hall, who was found helplessly drunk in Lambton Quay on Monday, was remanded for medical treatment for a week. ', JUVENILE COURT. In the Juvenile Court yesterday, Mr. S. E M'Carthy, S.M., had beforo him two youths, aged 15 and 17 respectively, charged with stealing 15s. in money, the.property of T. Shiel. The theft was committed on Sunday last at the Lower Hutt. The 'younger lad was committed to the Wcreroa Training Farm, and the older boy was convicted and ordered to come ud for sentence when called upon, on the condition that he reports once a month to the probation officer.

Judgment summons cases were dealt with as follow:—A. .Tanson was ordered to nay Bannatyno and Hunter, Ltd., £3 Os. 6d. by October 2. in default 48 hours' imprisonment; E. Biggs was ordered to pay Harry 11. Tombs, Ltd., £4 sh. by October 2, with the option of four days' imprisonment; P. It. Cundy w»b ordered to pay T. n. It.
