IDLE AND DISOHDEELV
Mr. S. E. H'Carthy, 6.M., presided at tb.e Magistrate's Court yesterday. Emma Smith, was charged with beine an idle and disorderly pel-son in that she poaiseased insufficient, lawful moans ex support. Inspector Marsack stated that the accused was found at ono o'clock on Sunday mornins sitting on a. loe on reclaimed land near Clyde Quay. She had been drinkinu, and had a bottle of beer in her possession. She was couviotei, and_,sentonced to tliree months' imprisonraeni!..
John Jones was also- charged with beinc an idle and disordeaiy person In that ho poEses'sed insufficient means of support. The accused -ivas found at an oo.rly hour on September 5 asleen on a. doorstep in Tory Street. When arouacd and questioned ho admitted that lie had no money and no place to go to. Bβ was in a. weak conditiou, and covered with vermin. Acoused had exproeeed a wish to be sent to tho Old Hen's Home in Ohiro Eoad, but on Inspector Sforsaok pointing: out that the accused bed a record of 41 previous convictions f>-r theft, vagrancy, and other offences, the llagistrato remarked that the Ohiro Home was no place to send bad men. Jones was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. Honry Wilson, an elderly nifln, was also charged with being , an idlo nnd disorderly person, -with ineufficient lawful means of support. It was explained by Inspector ICnrsack that accused had come from Tbkomaru Bay, and reaolieiJ Welliuston with £50 in his possession. Ho "knocked" the chequo down in about a fortnight, and then went to a constable and asked to bo arrested es ho had. no r.oney, and was starving. WilsaQ. -was convicted and ordered to come up fir mjntenoe -when called np, and wa.B ordered to pay medical expensM. For insobriety three first rffender.6 were each fined 109.. in default 24 hours' imprisonment, and another wns flnddi 205.. in default nours' Imprisonment. John Kennedy Thompson ,ivas further remanded for a week on a oharuo of beftip found helpleßslv drunk in JWeßworth etreet.
