WELLINGTON INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL The annual meeting of the Wellington Industrial Association was held last evening. Mr. F. J. Evans presided over an attendanco of nearly twenty. The annual report stated:—"There has been keen interest taken in the aft'airn of the association by members of the General Committee during the past year. The war has proved that wo are able to manufacture many articles which, have hitherto been imported, and the following important matters have engaged at-tention-.-Scientific research, hyjlro-elec-trio power utilisation of waste products, affd afforestation. A Scientific Research Fund was opened early in the year, and though the amount which it was hoped to receive by means of donations has not been realised; still, a commencement has been made, and, as the income and expenditure account, shows, a sum of £'ib 3s. hM been handed to the governors of Victoria, College, to bo used in the manner by them considered best, in the c ireotidn of furthering scientific research. It may be mentioned that the inauguration of the fund came about through Professor Easterfield kindly giving lectures to members on scientific research. Mr C. J. Ward, a member of the association's General Committee, has followed on this matter by turning hie attention to the best usages of waste material in factories, and he has offered a monetary prize for tho best adopjed suggestion of employees engaged in factories. The amount offered by Mr. Ward has been supplemented by a manufacturer in the Sout;h Island, who is much interested in the echeme." . Officers were elected as follow:—President, Mr. F. J. Evans; vice-presidents, Messrs H. Mainland and L. T. Watkins; treasurer, Mr. Bardie Shaw; committee, nineteen were elected, and there are vacancies for five others; auditors,, Messrs. A. T.
