Mr. Hugh .T. M'lntosh, M.L.A., of Sydney, has arrived in Auckland in charge of tho Ada Eeevo Company. A very old residont, Mr. John Hooper, died at an early hour on Saturday rooming. The late Mr. Hooper spent his early days in America, engaged in goldminiug, coming •to New Zealand 4'J years ago. After a short 6tay in Wellington he took up a farm in South Karori, and has been ongaged in farming there ever since. For many years previous to his death the late Mr. Hooper lived a quiet, retiring life, taking, however, a keen interest in local affairs. Ho is survived hy a tvifo and family of eight eons and three daughters-/ Mr. Hooper's two youngest sons aro now serving in France. Mr. G. Ll Stewart; "ecretary (.f the Wellington Education' Board, is at present paying a visit to Dunedin. Mr. M'Lcod, bandmaster of the NewPlymouth Citrons' Band, has received a cable message inviting him to coach the City Band, Ipswich, Queensland, for the championship contest at the Xvevr Year.—Press Assn. Tho late Mr. .Tosoph Brennan, who was found dead in his house at Masterton on Sunday morning, left Wellington about eighteen months ago. Ho was moat enthusiastic in recruiting matters.
