RECEPTION AND FAREWELL
The members of the 42nd Company (Kilbiruie) Senior Cadets met pu Tues-1 day at the "Charlie's Aunt" Social Hall, to lender a reception to Lieutenant A. (.'. Richards, Officer 'Commanding, who went to Samoa witli the Advances Guard when the war broke out, and thence to 'Egypt and Gallipoli with the I'ourth Keinforcenients, where ho put in four ■months before being wounded. On returning to New Zealand he recovered sufficiently to be able to walk about,'and on being asked to take ovor his old company he did so last October. 'The farewell was to Company Sergeant-Major C. Ib'bottsbn, who is going into camp tills month. The chair •was occupied by Lieutenant Nimmo, and tlie proceedings were opened by the company standing to attention for a 'minute, as a token of. respect for the fallen. The National Antliem was sung. The first toast, "The King," was proposed by the chairman. The toast "Cadets Past and Vresent" was proposed by Lieutenant Smith, and "Our Guests" by Quavtermaster-Scrgeant Deverill. Sergeant-Major C. Ibbottspn was presented with a lentber waistcoat and clasp-knife. Lieutenant ,T. Thompson, N.Z.S.C, and Staff Sergeant-Major ,f. King were present; and addressed the company on the present system of training, comparing it with the old system. Lieutenant Thompson paid a tribute to the work of the guests. Musical items were provided by Messrs Gorman Aitkon, V. M'Kenzie, K. Oswin, W. Crawford.
