THE CRIPPLED SOLDIERS' HOSTEL
A ver{' plaiu obligation rests upon the people of this country in tho matter of "assisting crippled soldiers and sailors and enabling them to resume civil life under the best possible conditions. For a long time to come the problems involved in meeting this obligation will demand much thought as well as generous consideration, and the public will no doubt readily respond to whatever demands are made in the interests of our maimed and crippled heroes. Such an appeal is at 'present being made locally on liehalf of the Crippled Soldiers' Hostel. An institution of this kind, administered on right lines, is obviously capable of taking a very useful place in the extensive orgau- ! isation which will have to be developed in the interests of' men who return broken from the war, and all who realise how much these men have sacrificed for their country .and the Empire will welcomo tho opportunity which the appeal affords of doing something to ease their lot and promote their welfare. The campaign to raise funds is now in its closing stage, and it is very necessary to the success of the enterprise that the public should contribute on' a generous scale in tho limited time remaining available. Besides inviting direct contributions, those who have tho matter in hand arc., conducting an art union which provides a ready means by which even the poorest may contribute their mito in a most deserving cause. The success of the project, notably as regards tho acquisition of a suitable site for the hostel, deponds very, greatly upon a ready flow of contributions within the next week or two. An appeal made in so good a cause should not. lack I response. j
