FISHING IN THE RESERVOIRS
CITY COUNCIL. DEPUTATIONISED. A deputation of members of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society waited on the council last evening to ask for fishing privileges in tho Wainui and ICarori reserves. Mr. L. 0. H. Tripp (president of the society) asked that Wellington, fishermen who were members of the society be allowed to iish the reservoirs under strict regulations. The regulations should provide that some small fee should be paid to the council, the names of tho fishermen .should bo left at the caretaker's homo, and no permission should be given to fishermen to light fires. In the past there was no trouble about fishing in the reservoirs, but that right was withdrawn owing to reports that fishermen polluted the water; but under strict regulations that could bn prevented. If the council would meet them and make regulations—as strict as the council liked—the society would see that they were complied with. The Act-ing-Mayor (Councillor Barber) said he could give no definite reply, but there was an additional reason at present why such permits should not be granted, and that was that it was not considered advisable to have peoplo .wandering about such public conveniences during the wartime. The matter would bo referred to a committee, and Mr. Tripp would be.advised later on with a view to consultation.'
