Owing to the holidays there" has been very little business dono during the latter part of the week in the grain and produce markets, and theft! are no changes to report. TALLOW. . The -N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., held its periodical solo of tallow yesterday. There -was a. fair attendance of buyers, and prices ranged from 31s. to 345. for mixed tallow, in shipping condition, and for tins from 28s. to 325. 6d. per , cwt. Bough fat, from 10s. to 225. per cwt.; horse hair was in poor demand at from s}d. to 7Jd. per lb. The N.Z. Farmers' Co-op. Distributing Co.. Ltd., report that an auction sale o£ tallow and sundries was held yesterday. The market generally was very flat a-s a direct recult of lack of shipping facilities to Australia, {he result being that those lines which did change hands realised from 3s. to 4s. per cwt. below the .prices ruling five weeks ago, being disposed of to local buyers. MONEY MARKET. Tho Bank of England discount rate was on January 2. 1914, 'reduced from 5 to 4 J per cent., on January 22 it* was reduced .to 4 per cent., and on January 28 3 Der cent. On July 30 the rate was raised to -1 per cent., and on July 31 it was raised tf. 8 per cent., and on August 1 it was further advanced to 10 per cent. On August. 6 tho rate was reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 it was furthor reduced to 5 ner tent., on July 13. 1916. it was raised to 6 Bcr cent., on January 12, 1917, it was reduced to 5J per cent;, .and on April 5 it was furthof reduced to 5 per cent. OPEN MARKET IUTB3. The open market dincount rate for three months' bills at .43 per cent., as compared with 4J per cent, last week and 53 per ccai last, year. Short loans are quoted at 4$ per cent, as against 4J ser oent. last week and 43 per cent, last year. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Wheat—The market is lifeless. No Australian is offering; Flour.—Quiet. Nominally unaltered; no Australian is offering. Oats, beans, and peas are firm, but market quiet. Sugar.—Unchanged. Butter.—Very Etarce. All sorts aro firm at the maxima, which probably will not change till to-morrow. THE METAL MAEKET. Copper.—Spot. £120 ss. per ton; threo months. £119 15s.
