OUR CRIPPLED SOLDIERS
' HEW'WANTED FOR A HOSTEL. Proliminary preparations for the drawing of the Crippled Soldiers' Hostel Art Uuion were begun last week, when tho butts or tho tickctß already 6old were placed in tho large octagonal .barrel which has been Epeoially built for the occasion. The barrel is 10 feet in length by 6ft. 6in. in heignt and width, and it is lined inside with glazed paper to ensure a thorough moving of the tioUets whenever the barrel is revolved, which will be frequently beforo the tickets are drawn. There are eight doors to the barrel through which the tickets are deposited, and through which they will bo drawn. The drawing from beginning! to end is under tho supervision of the Jlivyor of Wellington, the Insoector of Police, and tho managers of the Wellington banks. Thus when tho work of loading tho barrel with ticket butts is finished for the time being, the doors of the barrel are sealed by tho bonkers, and the seal must lie broken only by the bankers when further tiokets are to-be deposited in tho barrel. The last day for the sale of tiokets by agonte is August 28. The drawing takes place on September 6. Hence tho time is getting short in which , to 'apply for tickets. It is the duty of every person in the Bominion to help the object for which the art union has been promoted, namely, tho establishment of a hostel in Wellington, handy to wharves and railway stations, for crippled aoldiers and sailors who have no home of their own or who have no friends with whom they can live in comfort after being maimed in the war. Tho art union tickets coat sixpence each, affording an opportunity for all to help. An advertisement in this issue contains a form of application, which may be filled in (or tioket3 per poet.
