• PRIVATE HOTEL-WORK EES' DISPUTE. 'i'lio Conciliation Couucil, presided over by Air. W. H. 11 agger, Commissioner, .yesterday, further considered the private hotel, restaurant, and tea-room employees' dispute. Mr. W. A. Grenfell appeared as agent for tho employers, and Mr. E. Kennedy as agent for the union. So far us the private hotel workers were concerned, it was agreed to adopt the rates of pay in forco in the licensed hotel workers' award, with the proviso that women employed in. tlio kitchen should be paid three-quarters of what male kitchen-workers were paid, and that the minimum rate should be 255. In cases where lodging was provided, there was a stipulation that not less than ■WO cubic fcty of air space should bo allowed lor eacll person sleeping in a room. In regard to tho employees in general (i.e., to tea-room and restaurant as well as private hotel-workers) it was decided that hours should bo according to the provisions of tho Shops and Offices Act, and that where a seven-day business was carried on there 6hould be one day s holiday in tho week. In the case of work for six days a week, a half-holiday in addition to the day off was agreed upon. It was further agreed that wages should be paid weekly; that where special uniforms were worn they should be supplied by, and at the expense of, the employers; and that the award should operate' within a radius of 25 miles from the G.P.0., Wellington. An agreement -was arrived at upon the wages to be paid certain classes of workers in restaurants and tea-rooms, but among the matters-to go before the Arbitration Court will be the wages to be paid to certain, other employees in these establishments. The questions of the place of engagement and tho term of the award \\;«ra not agreed on.
