HUNGER-DISEASE IN GERMANY
COMPLETE FAMINE IN ISTRIA. Zurich, July 29. German newspapers report a grave epidemic of dysentery in the Tjig cities. There havo been many deaths, mostly of children and old people, duo to the poor quality of the bread. There is a complete famine in Istrift. The privations of the past two years lave reached a climax, and the inhabitants are reduced to eating grass, Many deaths have occurred from starvation. A portion of the population has been permitted to make a pilgrimage to. a province in Carniola, for tlie purpose of begging food- 'I'M Austrians stamped their passports "Authorised beggarsfrom Jstria."—Aus.-N.55.
