Thanks to the careful training of its members by Mr. Tom I'ollard, the performances are usually well out of the . ordinary amateur standard, and in numerical and vocal strength, taste in dressing, stage setting, etc., achieve a professional ratiug in the eyes (f the discerning. This year the society's choice lias fallen on Audran's "La ilascotte," a very tuneful opera with an amusing "book*." Rehearsals have been going cn. for a month past, under the baton of Mr. Bernard F.
