MASTERTON NOTES
The question of the amalgamation (f Wairarapa counties, upon which the councils of the district were recently approached by the Masterton County Council, has been indefinitely postponed. The Masterton Borough Council has decided to again approach the Underwriters' Association, with si view to securing a reduction in the insurance premiums on properties within the borough. The Minister of Internal Afl'airs has intimated that Mr. W. Kerr, S.M., has been appointed a Commission to take evidence regarding the proposal to establish a' toll-gate on the MastertonCastlepoint Iload. .The Masterton County Council decided on Tuesday to ask the Minister if he could see fit to appoint Mr. W. S. Short as the Commissioner, as he was more conversant with the position.
A sum of i' 7,5,9 16s. 2d. was raised at tho Masterton. Patriotic Shop during the month of Juno for the Y.M.C.A. Trench Comforts Fund. The expenses amounted to only £17 Bs. 3d. At, its meeting on Tuesday the Masterton County Council decided that the cost of re-erecting bridges be spread over the whole county, instead of being dobited to different ridings.
