SECOND DIVISION
PROVISIONS OF THE CLASSIFICATION
Tho final, classification of tho Second Division of tho Expeditionary Force Eeeerve was notified in the foum of a Gazette Extraordinary which was issued yesterday afternoon. The Division ie divided into six classes, according to number of children, as previously announced,, with, however, the important addition of the phrase "for the time being." In other words, provision is made for altering the classification of the reservist iii accordance with any increase in the number of his children or depletion by death. The Gazette also defines the position of the reservist in relation to illegitimate children, and directs that any reservist Who has lost si son as a result of service in His Majesty's naval or niijitaryforces during the present war shall have that son counted as if he had still been living.
The schedule fixing the classification/is as follows:—
1. The Second Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve, shall consist of six classes, distinguished and constituted as. follows:
2. Class A shall comprise all reservists of the Second Division who for the time being have no children. 3. Class B shall comprise all reservists of the Second Division who for the time being have one child. •if. Class C shall comprise all reservists of the Second Division who for the time being have two children. 5. Class.D shall comprise all reservists of the Second Division who for the time being have three children. 6. Class E shall comprise all reservists of the Second Division who for the time being have four children. 7. Class ]? shall comprise all reservists of the Second Division who for the time being have more than four children. 8. In this schedule the term "child" is used irrespective of age. 9. In this schedule the term "child" includes a child legally adopted by the reservist before the Ist day of May, 1015, but includes no other adopted children.
10. In this schedule the term "child" | includes a child of the wife of a reservist if the reservist married the mother of that child before the Ist day of May, 1915, but includes no other step-children. 11. In this schedule the term "child" mcludes the illegitimate child of a reservist if the reservist has married the mother of that child before the Ist day of May, 1915, but includes no other illegitimate children. 12. For the purposes of this schedule a child who has been legally adopted by any person shall not be counted as a child of his natural parents. 13. If any son of a reservist of s the Second Division has, during the present war, died wki!e a member of any Expeditionary Force raised under the Expeditionary Forces Act, 11)15, or while a member of any other of His Majesty's ,- military or naval forces engaged in the present war, such son ehall for the purposes of this (schedule be computed as ono of the children'of that reservist in til* same manner as if he had been still living.
CHANGE' OF CONDITION MUST BE . NOTIFIED. A' further Gazette Extraordinary wag issued at the same time making it compulsory for Second Division Reservists to 'notify any change in condition Recording to number of children. ino object o\ this is to enable the Government Statistician to determine the classes to ivhicli reservists belong for the time being. The Regulations are as under:— 1. (1) With the exception hereinafter set forth, every Teservist of the Second Division of the Expeditionary Force serve under the Military Act, 1916, shall within ten days after July 11, 1917, deliver to''a postal officer at a. post office, upon a printed form to be obtained'on application at "that past office, a\,true statement indicating the number of his children' as on. Hie said July 11, 1917, together with the names, flaFcs, anS places of birth of those children, aud if the reservist had no children on that date indicating the fact. (2) If any such children, aro illegitimate, adopted, or step-chiUlren, this fact must be specially indicated in the said statement. (3)-Nothing in the foregoing regulation shall apply to any reservist who has already before tho date of this Order-in-C'ouncil furnished to the Government Statistician in writing, either under the National Registration Act, 1915, or under the Military Service Act, 1916, sufficient information ns to his children to enable the Government Statistician correctly to enrol that reservist in his proper class in the Second Division as at the said July 11, 1917. 2. If after July 11, 1917, any change takes place in tho number of the children of any reservist of tho Second Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve, the reservists shall, within ten days after the day on which that change takes place, post to'"the Government Statistician at Wellington a registered letter informing him of the fact, date, and nature of the change, and setting out the full name, residence, and occupation of the' reservist. , 3. If any reservist fails to fulfil any obligation imposed upon him by these regulations, or if by any false 'representation relative to his deceives or attempts to deceive the Government Statistician, he shall be guilty of an offence against these regulations, and shall be liable under the War Regulations Act, 1914, accordingly. •1. In these regulations the. term "child" or "children" has the same meaning as in the schedule to Order-in-Cauncil of July 4. 1917, whereby the Second Division of' the Expeditionary Force Reserve was divided into classes.
