MAGISTRATE'S COURT

OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Mr. L. G. lieid, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court, yesterday and heard the cases brought by the police. Thomas Haslam pleaded guilty to using obscene language in Ouba Street, and was lined £5, in default 21 days' imprisonment. A reservist named William Kinnaird Ohisholm, on the eve of going into camp, was arrested in Buckle Street for drunkenness, and yesterday he appeared to answer this charge, also another of using obscene language. Ho pleaded guilty, and was fined 205., in default seven days' imprisonment oh each charge. Sydney Daniel Richardson and Percy Flynn, drivers, employed by the same firm, quarrelled and started to tight, on the top of an express, Flynn tumbled off tho vehicle, and was somewhat injured, necessitating the attendauco of a doctor. Yesterday Richardson was charged with assaulting Flynn. Accused pleaded guilty, and was fined 20s. and ordored to pay medical expenses. £3 13s. 6d., and witnesses' exponses 65., in default 14 days' imprisonment. John Robert, Nicolle, who appeared to answer two charges of indecent assault on a girl under 16 years of age, was fur. ther remanded to Wednesday, July A. Bail was allowed as previously. For insobriety three first offenders were convicted and discharged. CIVIL ACTION. Mr. W. G. Riddell. S.M., had before him yesterday afternoon the case of John George Dalrymplc, accountant, who claimed from tho Wellington Tramway Union the sum of £20 for professional services reudcrod between March 27, 1915, and May 24. 1917. Mr. G. G. G. Watson appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. H. F. O'Lcary for the Tramway Union. , Plaintiff, in his evidence, stated that he was auditor for tho union for about six years. In March, of last year he was instructed by the president of the union to mako a thorough examination of the books in connection with certain alleged defalcations and to devise a scheme for preventing a recurrence of Buoh defalcations. Tho investigation extended over a period of three months, and the union had been furnished with a return showing tho defalcations, and he had also sent in two or three interim reports.' Tho amount claimed was for.this Borvicc. The defendant union had paid £3 3s. for Jhc report and regarded that ag an adequate fee. The defence was that the charge was an exorbitant one, and furthermore plaintiff had entered into a, definite agreement to do the work for £3, also that the work was not properly done, and that no final report was sent to tho executive of the union. Tho case was part heard and adjourned lo Tuesday next.
