SCHOOL AFFAIRS
VABIOUS PROPOSALS. A deputation from the Wellington School Committees' Association- waited on Hie Wellington JiMuciition Board yesterday to place before members resolutions adopted at their annual meeting. The deputation, which was introduced by Air. T. Forsyth, comprised Messrs. W. E." Fuller; A. Sando. J.J. Clark, and H. Bicntoii-IJiilc. The first' resolution urged the advisabloncss of the board obtaining wholesale supplies of school stationery requisites to supply Stile schools, with the idea of lessening the cost to parents. Mr. Sando said that an immediate saving could be effected.by wholesale purchase, especially in icgartl to writing paper, which should bo used in place ot unhygienic slates. The proposal was that the board should buy wholesale, and supply the schools In .this way.' he' thought 50 per cent, in the costfibf material could be saved to parents. A resolution urging uniformity of school books was supported by Mr. ISando, .who said that the frequent changes made in books placed a tax upon parents. If the inspectors made a selection of books it would bo better than if tho choice were left to the teachers. Another resolution was: "That more time and attention be given to writing in public schools." Regarding this matter Mi'. Clark stated that too committees were unanimous that sufficient timo was not given to this important subject. Mr. Fuller suggested that the syllabus was overcrowded, and that if more time were, given to writing and a uniform stylo adopted, better results wo'uld be obtained!
