THE MISHAP TO THE KOTARE. By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, Juno 26. A preliminary inquiry concerning the mishap to the Kotare was held at Dunedin last week, and the evidence of tho master and crew was taken and foiwardod to Wellington. Tho Marino Department" will decide whether a. Magisterial inquiry Is necessary. Tho Kotaro resumeß running to-morrow. NIKAU DROPS A PROPELLER. While on her way from Nelson to Wellington on Monday night tho Nikau dropped one of her propellers. The mishap occurred in smooth water as tho steamer was manoeuvring alongside tho wharf at Elmslie Bay, near the French Pass. Being fitted with twin screws the Nikau had a propeller left with which to put back to Nelson. She will undergo tho necessary repairs thcro, and is expected to r.esumo her running at tho end of the week. UNION GO. MOVEMENTS. To-day five of the Union Company's Tcsscls are fixed to leave Wellington. Tho Kpru takes cargo for New Plymouth. Her next port has not yet been advised from Dunedin. The Te Anan leaves for Timaru, Oamaru, and Bluff. Tho ICamo is expeoted to leave about 10 p.m. for Greymouth, where she loadß coal back to Wellington, and tho Komata is to leave for Westport. Yesterday tho Kahika arrived in port from Westport with a cargo of coal. It is hoped that tho vessel will get out again to-morrow for Westport, where she will load for Napier and Gisborno.
On her trip south this time the Monowai will not call at Lyttelton, and will leave Wellington on Saturday for Dunedin direct. )
Mr. Tomer, of the Blackball Coal Company, advises that tho Xgatoro will not leave Limestone Island for Wellington, via, Auckland and possibly other ports, until to-day, and will not now get hero until about the middlo of next week. After completine discharao the Kaituna, which left Wellington on Friday : for Lyttelton, will go on the slip at the southern port for overhaul. I Sinco the Ifaglo left Wellington over a week ago no word has beon received by the local asonts regarding tho vessel. She is supposed to ba loatfinz at Sandy Bay for Wellington. To-morrow tha inquiry regarding the recent stranding at tho heads ot a barque will be held and statements will be made on oath by the porsous concerned. These statements will be forwarded to Mr. 0. Allport, Secretary for Marine, and a copy to tho American Consul in Wellington. To-day the Defender will shift from Miramar to Olydo Quay Wharf. Bhe is to Bo on Ilia Wellington Slip before going south ajain, probably on Friday, end will nndorgo annual overhaul. She will probably lcuvo about the middlo or end of noxt woek for Picton and Hokitiku.. After a lone absonco from Wellington the Breeze is due on Thursday. Sho loads for Lyttelton, Timaru, and Duncdin the same day.
