KARORI BOROUGH AFFAIRS

MEETING OF llffi COUNCIL. Tho fortnightly meeting of tho Karori Borough Council was held last evening, tho Mayor-(Mr. B. G. H. Burn) presiding. There weie also prosenti Councillors W. Skegg, T, Lower, J. Mackenzie, H. H. Flanagan, H. E. Dryden, and W. Ci. Bradnock. Tho Town Clerk read a statement showing tlio amount collected in tho borough for the Belgian Relief Fund from Juno, 1915, to June 23, 1917. Tho total was shown at £&U 3s. -13,(1., of which i'3lß hnA heeii paid over to tho Belgian Fund, ■ leaving £26 3s. Ud. to be transferred to tho Wounded Soldiers' Fund, to which all future collections in tho borough aro to ho devoted. The District Health Officer reported a easo of diphtheria in tho borough, and recommended that certain improvements bo made in connection with tho waste wator service, attached to tho residence concerned.. Tho engineer's report, which was adopted, stated that tho recent heavy rains had caused daniago which would cost about ;£SO to repair. The> Tramway Committee reported having Interviewed Mr. Morton, tho city Tramway Manager, with respect to tho car mileage charge. Tho committee did their utmost in the matter, but tho figures produced by Mr. Morton showed conclusively that tho ,cosl had risen. Favourable consideration was, however, secured for dther tramway matters, in which borough was inferos tgd> The committee's report was adopted.
