His Excellency the Governor has received the- following telegraphic appeal from Field-Marshal His Koyal Highness •the J-hiko of Connaught and tho iUrquis of L'linsrfowne, on lrehalf of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in England and the British Red Cross Society, which -His Excellency hopes will meet with the same' generous response as did last year's appeal:— It becomes necessary for tho Order of St. John of Jerusalem in England and the British Red Cross Society to appeal once more to tho generosity of their friends and supporters at home ami overseas lor funds to carry on their work of mercy for the sick and wounded of His Majesty's Forces. The joint committee has decided to make again Buch an, appeal on October 18, and wo earnestly beg your assistance in making it known-to tho people of" New Zealand. Our Red Cross workis now costing eight thousand pounds per day, and increases rather than diminishes. Our help is given in every theatre of the vnv and to troops from every part of . the Empire, and will hare to be continued for some time even wlien victory has been achieved. We are deeply grateful for the munificent .
