STOPPING TRAINS AT TRENTHAM
. Sir, —I wish to draw, attention to the j&bsurd attitude taken np by the 'EailJTvay Department in* refusing to allow /mail trains to the Wairarapa to 6top at ;iTxentham. During- the coal strike liable this was done, without causing inIconvenience to anyone.' Now, can any leane argument be put forth, against alllowing tho trains to stop at Trentham? [The down morning train stops at all tho jSmall stations between Upper Hutt and ILqwer Hutt, excepting, of conreo, Trentjlam. Trentham residents, soldiers, and itheir relatives and friends have to walk ito -Herotaunga, and the Bailway Department has a guard at Heretaunga to [book up the passengers, sending a- guard (from Wellington for this purpose. It ffrentham there is a stationmaster and staff, which would certainly facilitate the dealing with the traffic, but no, the De■7>artment in its wisdom prefers to transfer the traffic to Heretaunga. Again, ithe evening train stops «t all the small stations, Belmont, Mellings, Haywards, SSilveretream, Heretaunga, Wallaceville, ■but not at Trentham. This certainly 'looks like a matter of there not being sufficient influence to counteract the -'Heretaunga current or the Department beI'ing absolutely bound up in red tape policy. Could not, at the least, this matter bo included in the category of "During tho duration of the 'war and six months rafter."—l? am, etc.. ■ ■■ STOP FOR SOLDIEES. [The Eailway Uepartmont is now arjranging for the Wairarapa trains tostop at Trentham for passengers.]
