Iho sunn required, however, is J360, so that there is yet needed more. In addition there was the amount realised from Major Waito's lecture, and ono or two other efforts. A member of tho, club has given two .pictures, valued at 30 guineas, to be raffled.- These are oh viow at tho Bristol Company's rooms and at Begg's music warehouse, tickets for the raffles being one shilling- each. Contributions to this frnd v. ill bo gladly received by the secvetaiy of tho Pioneer Club (Mis. Martin), aud they should be ! Kent in, as soon as possible, as it is hoped that tho full amount may bo cabled early in July.
It may interest readers k> learn that after tho reorganisation of the Serbian Army the Government nsked the Scottish "Women's Hospitals for two fully equipped unite. Tho first oE these left for the.Near East in August, 391 R. On. arrival at Salonika it proceeded 'in tho wako of the Serbian Army to Ostrovo, where- it -worked day and night during the severe fighting for Monastir. The Ambulance Corps of this unit rendered splendid service'on the dangerous mountain roads. Dr. Bennett, writing from Macedonia, and commenting: on the work, eaid: "As long as.thoro are wounded men on tho hills our car 3 will go to bring them in... if it is humanly possiblo to manage it, and ouir girls are most wonderful—no praise is too high, for their nerve and skill." Mrs. Walter Nathan, who is organising tho Mercer Street Depot Day at the shop on Friday, July 13, is arranging for two camisolo competitions—day and ovening wear—and a sponge-cake- competition. It is expected that this idea will bring a large sum in for tho day, and tha.t thero will bo keen competition. Tho articles will becomo tho property of the shop, and sold for tho Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Organisers of the Hofeson Street Day have notified the secretary that they will tako two moro days at tho shop this year, ono in. September, and one oa December 14.

Y.W.C.A. Notes. Miss Florence Birch, general secretary of the Y.W.C.A., will give an outline ot her recent country tour in the interest ot' the extension work of the Y.W.C.A. at the service to-morrow afternoon, at 4.15, in tho association's clubrooms, Herbert Street. This will be an opportunity for the girl members and friends of the association to hear something of the work in which Miss Birch is engaged, and it is expected that many will avail ' themsolves of it. A demonstration, in "Economic Cookery" will be held at the Y.W.C.A., Fowlds's Buildings. Manners Street, this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Miss Eennie (City and Guild's London Institute) will give this demonstration which is planned to help housekeepers to reduce the cost of living whilst Baiting the best results from their materials. The subject of . thrift is of the highest importance, especially at this " time of national anxiety, and no efforts should be spared to save food materials. Dr. Herbert will speak on "Prevalent Diseases; How Caused; How Prevented,"
! at the T.W.C.A., Herbert Street, tonight at 8 o'clock. The lecture to-night will be open to all girls and women. It is interestine to note that a member of the Y.W.C.A. has received an appointment under the City Council as a worker in the Botanical Gardens. The two appointed are Mrs. Thomas and Miss Griffin, who will enter this occupation on Monday next. This is the first timo in Wellington that women have held these positions. It will he remembered that Miss Birch, eeneral secretary of the Y.W.C.A., wet the members of the City Council with a view to their opening the way for women to enter the profession of gardening.
