BOEOUGH COUNCIL MEETING. I/ast evening's meeting of tho Petoiie Borough Couucil was presided over by Mr. J. W. M'Ewan (Itayor). Councillors present woro: Messrs. 0. P. Brocklebank, W. Cox, J. Churchouso, J. Poster, S. Howlauds, J. it'Dougali, D. M'Kensic H. Jones, and S. Tovoy. Tho Town Clerk, Wollington, advised that tho police had been requested to put a stop to tho use of the Ilutt Hoad cycletrock by motorists. Tho Superintendent of the State Advances Oflloe wroto tliat the consent of the Govcrnor-in-Council had been given to *»he loan of £4000 for tho completion of the borough sewago system. Ellis and Mautou were granted poi'mission to oreot a forty-foot amoke-Btacl; in wrought iron inetead of in brick at their oancllo factory, which 'is at present under construction. Tlie Actlng-Primo Minister advised that thrs council's proposals for an increase in tho ollowanco to old-ngo pensioner? and widows would receive varcful consideration. Jlr. T. Jr. Wilfort, 11. P., informed tho council that ho had not tho power to bring tho above-mentioned matter boforo Parliament unless he was authorieqd by the Premier to do so. Ho cxprossed the opinion that tho present allowance -was scandalously email, and he said thai lie would carry out a iporsistent crusauo till wae dono. The council decided to support tho Timam Council iu its endeavour to mako compulsory tho taking out oE yearly licniißcs for motor-cars and motor-cycles as well as for drivers. A worker travelling to Wellington evjry night applied for a concession fare on tho jnutor-'liufl rnnniiiu belwen Pctono and Wellington, and the council grantM tlio rnciuest.
