ATTENDANCE OF FRENCH SOCIALISTS PREVENTED 'PASSPORTS REFUSED. (Kec.Juno 3, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, J uup 2. At iiit impressive session of the Chamber nf Deputies, tho Premier (SI. Ribot) announced the Government's attitude regarding the Stockholm Conference. He said t'lie Government refused to countenance tho French Socialists' desire to meet the Germans, and would not grunt passports. The Government would sboi'tly publish the Franey-Russian Convention in order to silenco the infamous campaign alleging that France had precipitated the war.. M. Ribot added that peaco could not possibly emerge from such a congress as thnt to be held at Stockholm. Peaco could only come with victory. Peace for France must be a French peace, embodying tho country's aspirations. Tho Chamber later voted that a. secret session should he hold to hear the reports of tho French Socialist Mission which has returned from l'etrograd.—Aus.-N.Z.' Assn. Paris reports slate that the French i Socialists consider that their uon-parti-cipation .in- the Stockholm Conference would throw Russia into Germany's aims,' while participation would keep Russia on the offensive. The conference would be a victory for those desiring a democratic and not a German peace, and | also a peace assured by a rovolution in Germain-.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. TRADES LEADERS CONDEMN IT London, Juno 1. WLr. Applcton, secretary of the General Federation of Trade Unions, states that tho leaders solidly oppose the Stockholm Socialist Conference, -which will only tend to embitter tho international situation. Tho German Socialists, even with, the best will in tho world, cannot give cffect to tlieir views. The conference is a gross blunder, and can only result in ■ quarrels—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. MR. ROBERTS~WnTNOT ATTEND ATTITUDE OF BRITISH LABOUR PARTY. London, June 1. The "Daily Chronicle" explains that Mr. G. H. Roberts will not attend tho Stockholm Conference of Socialists. He will merely stay in Stockholm briefly on Iris way to Petrograd in order to expound the attitude of tho British Labour { Party which has always refused to attend the Stockholm Conference. • It is recalled that at the time of the last conference the Labour Party passed a resolution in favour of, fightins until, victory is won.—Aus.-N.Z.
