EMPIRE DAY
To-day will bo observed as a pretty close holiday in Wellington in hononr of the King's Birthday, which is also Empire Day. The Civil Service, .banks, iusuranco and legal offices will be closed, and as it is- a holiday under the provisions of the Factories Act and Shopa and Offices Act, as well as being included in most of tho trade awards, there is not likely to be much doing in. the city. Beyond a few football matches there are no special holiday attractions. Tho State, schools, which have been, closed for term holidays during the past week, will reopen to-morrow morning.
With little else in the way of holiday attractions offering to-day, there will probably be a good attendance at tho Athletic Park to see the contest between tiio local representative team and the select from Trenthani Camp. While the Wellington team is composed of young men, many have already shown that they have tho makings in the near futnro of first-class players, and whilo the Trentbam team is (on paper) one of tho strongest seen in Wellington for soma time, it may be that the local team will mako a botter showing than many anticipate.
