The Bauk of Kngland discount rate wag on January 2,- 1914, rcduced from 5 to per cent., on January 22 it waa reduced to 4 per cent., and on January 23 3 per cent. On July 30 the rate was raised to 4 per cent., and on July 31 it was raJsefl to 8 per cent., and on August 1 it was further adranced to 10 per cent. On August 6 the rate was reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 it was further reduced to 6 per cent., on July 13. 1916. it was raisod to 6 per cent., on January 12, 1917, it was r&duced to 5i 'per cent., and on April 5 it was further reduced to 5 per cent. OPEN MJLHKET KATES. The open market discount rate for threo months' hill is 4 13-16 per cent., as compared with 4} per cent, last week, and A '9-16 per'cent, last year. Short loans aro quoted at 4 3-8 per cent., as against 4 3-8 per cent, last week and 4 per cent, ln.st year.
