COMPULSORY TAKING SUGGESTED

Mnrtort, May 30. i At yesterday's sitting of the Wellington Provincial Conference of tho Farmers' Union, Mr. A. P. Whatman, of Mnsterton, brought forward a schome for securing good land for soldiers. After an interesting discussion (a. report of ■which has. appeared 'in The Dominion) a committee 'was set up to report to tho conference to-day.' The committco reported .this morning *s follows :4-
.. This Provincial Conference of the '"Farmers' Union recommend that tho Government should at once secure •land for returned soldiers, such land 'to compriso land of first-class quality suitable for such men as are unfit, for back-blocks hardships; and that in order to supply such Innd compulsory acquisition at fair values . should bo carried out and the laud paid for at 4J per cent, debentures, '.free of taxation, leaving the ownor if he ei wishes land of a markot value of at least .035,000. . The report of tho committee was adopted by tho conference.
