A cablegram has been received by Mr. H M Smeetoh, of Auckland, stating (hat his son. Captain W. J. Smeeton, Eoj-nl Field Artillery, is in hospital suffering from-a slight wound in the thigh Captain Smeeton was in England with ■ hie parents when war broke out on August 1, 19U, and was enrolled as .l trooper in King Edward's Horse on the 10th of Hmt month. Later he was g en a. commission in the Eoyal lTieM Artillctv, and has been on active service ever since. He had his captain's commission when 20 years of .age. Captain Smeeton received his first trainins: in the Auckland Grammar School Cadets.
