HOTEL THIEF ARRESTED
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Whakatane, May 26. Oh May 15 the Commercial Hotel was broken'into through a window, and the sum of JJ2 9s. was stolen from the till. As the result of a smart pices of work, Constable Cummings arrested a man Darned Howe two days later, at a place about eight miles away. The constable found an exemption badge near the till, Bad there was blood on a broken win-dow-pane. • The man claimed the badge, • but denied being guilty of the theft, although corresponding coins, sixpences and shillings, were found on him. Accused had a cut thumb, and his clothes were bloodstained. He said that his injuries were due to barbed-wire. Yesterday ho pleaded guilty to breaking and entering and theft, and was committed to 4io Supreme Court for sentence. He also ~ pleaded guilty to attempting to break * into and enter the Whakatane.
