ANSWERS TO COKBESPONDENTS. "Interested."—Ypur bird is evidently suffering from a severe cold. If there is a discharge from the nostrils deal with tho complaint promptly, lurchase sixpennyworth of hydrogen peroxide, and add an equal.part of water. Syringe the nostrils and roof of tho mouth. Keep the bird in warm quarters and isolate from others. "Inquirer."—Most of the importations into New Zealand aro in the form of liguid volks. Over eighty tons' came in last year. In value they were worth quite ,£IO,OOO to bakers. We must produce more eggs and keep up our slimmer supply to help check their importations. Winter Eggs, ■ The usual winter shortage of eggs has arrived, and prices have risen inovitably with the natural strictures- placed on layors. A good many people have a mistaken idea, that poultryinen lot of money when eges are dear. This is a fallacy. I'ew people get mora es2S than will pay for the food during the winter season. There is more money in poultry when egg 3 are Is. 3d. in the summer time, than when they are 2s. Gd. .in winter. The fact that egga rise to 2s. fid. is proof there is. a. demand that, cauuot bo supplied. It is the same in every country. In America, the greatest egg-producing country in tho world, newlaid eggs rise from 2s. Gd. to 3s. per dozen every winter. Poultrymen have tried to coax Nature to relax her stringency. Heated houses, continual light, and every inducement in the way of food has been practised, but all of no avail. At this time of the year, America ships eggs here, and does well out of them nt 2s. 6d; a dozen. Hnd we the supply in summer we coiild ship our eggs to them and get a similar prico. Writers are fond of nsine the winter price as an argument for importing Asiatic eggs. The question has absolutely no bearing on the matter. Esgs used by bakers are not ,the new-laid -winter eggs. These soar in price. because they are a luxury, and people will have them at any price. The Sun Poultry Book. I have been favoured with an advance copy of the "Sun Poultry Book," issued in Christchurch. It is a companion volume to tho Sun Gardening Book, and is a complete and handy guide to poultry for the beginner, the advanced student or the fancier. It is just what is needed for colonial requirements, and the book should have a wide sale. It is only Is. 9d. per copy posted. An advertisement appears on this page giving information of the work.
