CANARY SHOW
SPECIALISTS' WINTER EXHIBITION. A very fine showing of birds came forward for the Dominion Canary Specialits' Club's winter exhibition, which,was opened yesterday. The entries were from all parts of New Zealand. The highest class bird in the show belonged to Air. E. W. Alunro, of Pnlmerston North, and was a Norwich unHighted variegated buff. This bird was awarded the prize for first in its class, the cup, and the special prize for the best bird in the exhibition. Mr. Lindlev (the judge) told a reporter that the bird was the best, he had seen in New Zealand, and that it was quite capable of being classed against any of. the highclass birds in England. Generally, the Norwich birds were of a higher class than the other birds.
Tho judging was done by Mr. W. "H. Limlley. of Gisborne, and late of England, who has been a judge for some 25 years. The results weie as follow:—In the Norwich classes. ,T. N.. Rider secured three firsts, six seconds, and two thirds; A. 31. Dooley, ono first; T. Manson, two seconds;'!''. King, one first, two seconds, and ono third; W. Bull, one first, two seconds, and four thirds; Meadows and Inkpen, four seconds; P. W. Wilkinson, one third; B. Robinson, one first and one second; T. Wilkinson, six firsts, one second, and one third; R. W. Munro, threo firsts; A. W. Peters, one first; C.' Denny, two firsts; J. Simpson, three firsts, and one second; A. j?. Burke, ono first and one second; Mrs.- Denny, one second, and Mrs. E. Billing one third. In tho Yorkshire clnsses the following were tho prize-winners:—J. N. Eidor, thirteen firsts, fourteen seconds, and twelve thirds; T. Manson, one first and one third; W. Bull, one first and two thirds; B. Robinson, one first; T. Wilkinson, two first and two thirds; C. Denny, four firsts, five seconds, and one third; ,T. Simpson, two firsts; W. G. Pitchett, one second; Mrs. Donny, one second and ono third: J. Galvin, one first; J. Elbe, one third.
The prize-winners for rollers were:—J, Galvin, one second and one third; ,T. Elbe, one third; J. Hnllquist, one first; Miss ,T. Duncan, one second.
Special prizes were awarded as follow: Best Norwich yellow, B. Robinson; best buff,"Norwich. R. W. Munro; best Yorkshire, W. Bull; best bird. R. W. Munro; best opposite colour. .T. N. Rider; bestcrest J. N. Rider: best Norwich hen, T. Wilkinson; best finch, B. Robinson: best novice, A. M. Dooloy;'bost nnflighted Norwich hon. T. Wilkinson; be=t iinflighted Yorkshire. C. Denny.
