NOTES AND COMMENTS

IBt Glinoob.l At Wanganui to-day proceedings will open with, the Borough Handicap, sis furlongs, in which there aro 17 acceptors. The two top weights, Chakwona and Mia, Cam, are sure to be well fancied, and so also is Lady General (B. Dceley). The Wairarapa mare will eecm to have a splendid chance oa public form, as twice recently she has finished in front of Lady Black, who defeated good fields at Awapuni. They aro not ;i good lot in tho Hack Steeples, two miles. Grey Guard, who hails from Wanganui, has been working well ou tho tracks, and reports from Hastings speak very highly of Czaronus, who regularly accompanies Braoburn m his schooling tasks. Silver Monarch has also been responsible for soino good work, but may need a race. For the big steeplechase public opinion may favour the ehanoea of Braoburn (Dcory), Styrax (Traill), and Nita (E. Copcstake). Tho top weight is such n good, jumper that ho should bo quito at home under his heavy burden. Styrax has improved a lot in his jumping uinco reaching Wanganui, and Nita has a nice light weight, and never looked as well as sho does now.' Braeburn seems to bo a better ■ class than, tho others. There is a Tory big field in the Hack Hurdles. Tho list contains some very promising recruits to the jumping business. Deesido, who scored at Egmont, may bo tho best 'of the starters, but if Tatinii ifi raced in this in preforonco lo tho big ovent ho may bo favourite

Favouritism in the Century Hurdles may be divided between Bon Revo aud Loonta, both of whom are good performers, and well able,/ to get the distance. Of 'the light weights, Golden March reads tho best, though his. public form has been patchy. However, ho has a year on to his ago, and he gonerally races well fresh.

Hendra will carry Doeloy in tho Connolly Handicap, and tho big fellow may beono of tho favourites, for ho was very unlucky at Awarmni. Municipal, Gang Awa', .i.nd Detroit will all have good followinga. In the Puma Hack Handicap, Henry Clay, who aots woll on tho Wanganui courso, Crown Head, a. winner at the February meeting, and Hie improving Johnny Walker, the best backed. Multifid was again prominent among Iho winning sires'at tho Manawatu Racing Club's Meeting, where Mnltnino won tho Autumn Handicap, whilo Multifnal followed up his Hawke's Bay Cup success by annexing tho Longbiirn Handicap. Multifid had'a brief career at tho etud in tho Poverty Bay district, and the consistent form shown by his progeny is ample demonstration of tho sovero Josa sustained by his early death. The. Chokebbre slaMo won represented by nine entries at the coming Duneriin Meeting, but before the closing dnto (he horses were withdrawn.
