FULL SPEED AT THE COAL MINES
News from -Grcymouth to-day regarding work in the West Coast coal mines is of a most satisfactory nature The miners only abandoned "go-slow" methods, but are throwing such energy into their work that tho output in some- cases threatens to broak past records. This should speedily lead to the filling up of any shortagc'in supplies which may exist; and tho minors will also bo much better off than wlir.n they restricted their output. It is particularly pleasing to learn that whilo tho war lasts the men intend to do their utmost to meet requirements. Apparently it has been decided that each union will treat independently with tho mine-owners with which its members aro concerned, and that for the time being the Miners' Federation will stand aloof. Whatever tho reason for this step may be tho obligation now rests on tho mine-owners to endeavour to ensure that the miners shall have no ground to regret their action in settling down to their work in a reasonable way.
