The opening bad already been put off one week owing to bad weather, and Saturday also was somewhat of a disappointment owing to the fact that a couple of matches could not' be played, as the park caretaker in one instance would not allow games on his grounds. Third Grade B. The principal match in town -was a third grade B match between Institute and Wadestown, at Kclburn Park, where Mr. Ralston was the referee. Here some very good play was witnessed in spite of the slippery ground. In the first half neither side got the' ball between the posts. In the second spell, however, Institute, who were in hotter form than AVadcstown, kept the' ball in their opponents' half, and managed to get five goals. Their score would have been larger but for the good work of Wadestown goal-keeper, and more particularly the work of Wanden, the Wadestown full-back. Wanden's play was noticablo throughout, hut he had the misfortune in tho last five minutes of tho game to got a severe kick on the. ankle, which necessitated his being carried off_ the field, and will probably prevent him playing for a month or i more, Scores for Institute were gained by Owen (2), Hayvice (2), and Houston (1). Wadestown did not score. Fourth Grade. Institute A v. Institute B at Newtown Park resulted in a win for the former by 13 goals to nil. Bond (8), Smith (i)\ and McArthur were the scorers. Thorndon v. Karori, at Anderson Park, resulted in a. win for the former by six goals to nil. Empire defeated Y.M.C.A. by 4 to 3.
