HUN RUTHLESSNESS
TERRIBLE FATE OF -NORWEGIAN SAILORS Copenhagen, May \. A survivor described tho seizure of tho Norwegian steamer Carnitfca, which was laden with corn for the Belgian Relief Committee. When she was stopped i:n the North Sea the submarine (commander refused to iccognise tho German safe conduct, and: ordered the crew of 23 into two small boats. They were"not allowed to take any supplies. A prize crew took tho Carnitta to Germany. Five of the occupants of one of the Carnitta's boats died, and two corpses remained in the boat. The survivors were" weak and unable to throw them overboard. All suffered terribly during their six days' buffeting, andl two subsequently died. It will be necessary to amputate both legs of the remainder, owing to gangrene. Four Of the occupants of the other boat died of starvation, and some fell out and were drowned. A few survivors, half dead, lay in the bottom of the boat when it was picked up. —Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
