MILK SUPPLY
Sir, —Your report of the Mayor's re-' marks on the occasion of his installation shows that he has not quite tho correct grip of the real situation, and 1 indicates tho origin of the error. At one timo Dixon Street was the hub of tho milk interest, but the centre of gravity lias since shifted to another street, with an echo in Featherston. The Sunday traffic never was in jeopardy. Tho-only threat was against Monday's breakfast milk, and as breakfast niilk- goes out altogether under the new proposal, it is hard to see where any dift'orenco that matters comes into the argument, KeathcrsUm furnishes the smallest till are ol the city's supply, yet it is wresting tho largest share in the management. Ibis is shown by the Mayor's reference to the stoppage of Sunday deliveries, as Featherston was the only interested party to that part of the scheme, and a ray of hope is shed in its failure to that small extent. I fail to understand what the Mayor means by his remark that "an offer had been made to the vendors." The Mayor consulted mo in tho matter, and I tendered certain suggestions, which have not been acted on. If they had, Wellington would now have had the nucleus of a- clearing-house, governing very considerably tho relations of the three parties to the industry—farmers, vendors and consumers. Great oaks from little acorns grow. The council _ evidently believes in the Dutch auctionstart high and bid low at the finish. Mr. Morton baß been given a task be-
yond his metier, and he wants an cx«pert to share the burden. No oub' knows what an expert is in this case, but they hoped to find one by adver- ' tnsonient. 'J'ho little froge got tired of King -Log, m> they changed him for King Stork. The position is becoming,, intensely Gilbertiim.—l am, etc., HENBY BODLKY.
