AEROPLANE FOR THE SPORTSMAN

Beyond any doubt (says the "Scientiiic American"), tlio main reason why every sportsman is not flying about today is because the aeroplane designers have thus far failed to .meet popular requirements. There is no more reason why the sportsman should purchase a heavy, high-powered military biplane for his requirements, than a five-ton motor truck when all that he needs is a light roadster. . Now comes a oneman sporting. biplane designed by S. S. Pierce, which bears the same relation to the usual two-seater, low-pow-ered aeroplanes that the lightweight and inexpensive roadsters bears to the seven-passenger touring car. This machine has a 26-foot wing spread, and is of tho tractor design. The motor is a. three-cylinder radial type, developing about 35 horse-power. It is intended to sell this typo of aeroplane for about 3000 dollars (roughly, £600).
