A PEACE TO PREPARE FOR WAR
MOTIVE BEHIND THE GERMAN OFFER i SCHEMES FOR AN EASTERN . CONQUEST Washington, May 1. With regard to Germany's terms of pence, one of the Allied Commissioners, who desires to withhold his name, gave an interview in which he asserted that Germany will probably offer to give Al-sace-Lorraine to France, and to withdraw from Belgium, and relinquish French territory. Germany's real idea, however, was to keep clear the route to Turkey, in _ order to begin a now war against civilisation when the opportunity was again ripe. Germany, unable to attack Suez from outside, hoped to be able to reach it through Turkey.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
