STRANGE DEATH

DEAD ON A DOORSTEP. An inquest was held yesterday afternoon by the Coroner (Mr. W; G. Riddell, S.M.) into the cause of the death of William Patriok Black, whose tody was found lying on a doorstep at the corner of Taranaki Street and Arthur Street on Tuesday evening. After hearing the evidence of Dr. Fyffe, who made a post-mortem examination, the Coroner returned a verdict that death was due to acute pneumonia, accelerated by alcoholism ■ and probably by exposure.
