ENTERTAINMENTS
"WATCH YOUE STEP." Tlio above production, which is at present running iij aid of the .Returned .Soldiers' Clubs of Auckland and Wellington, lias all the elements of a pleasant entertainment. The performance is distinctly bright, and for amateurs very creditable. There are some good, spectacular effects, some well-arranged and a number of very popular comedy turns. Jliss Eva Cardatou, in tlio most exacting part of all, succeeds in thoroughly pleasing her audience. Other parts of importance are incapable hands, and it "is scarcely likely, in view of tho excellent object, that the audionces for the remainder of the season will bo hypercritical. The hundred performers taking part should have the pleasure of seeing their venture prove a> financial success.
HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. A capital vaudeville programmo is being submitted at His Majesty's Theatre this) week, and for the last three nights large audiences have enjoyed it. Thoro are several Dew-comers, amongst whom are Minerva and Grace, a pair of remarkably clever and well-developed gymnasts. Tiny Tot and Marjorie ore another pa,ir of clever acrobats, and are heartily welcomed. Lieutenant Gordon, a ventriloquist, is making himself popular, and other items are those of musicians, singers, dancers, and comedians, who help to make up a very entertaining evening. THE KING'S. Gerald Ames is. seen in one of his cleverest characterisations as "Atsene Lupin," the famous companion in crime fiction to "Baffles" and Sherlock Holmes. .. The bitter contest of wits between this brilliant cracksman and the chief of the Paris police,,provides many entertaining incidents that lend themselves particularly well to photo dramatisation, besides which the picture is given a powerful heart interest in a skilfully interwoven love story. About one hundred Tahitians, at the invitation of . the Mayor (Mr.. Luke) attended last night's presentation. • EVERYBODY'S. "You should marry a red-blooded woman of the world, 'who would appeal to your "various moods," is.one of the subtle arguments used by the screen siren, Dorothy Dalton, as the leading figure of "The Female of the /Species," but her gorgeous seductiveness is unsuccessful, the hero going back to the clever little wife who nas fought so hard for his love. Billie Burke, in "Gloria's Romance," is Been in a different mood to the preceding instalments of tho popular serial. She makes a pathetic figure as she tries on a what was to have been her wedding gown. ' • THE EMPRESS.' Clara Kimball Young must now be classed as perhaps the most popular ar'tiet on the shadow screen. The crowds who attend every pioture play in which sho appears have, the management report, never been equalled at fhe presentation of any other artist-at this theatre. In "The Bise of Susan" Miss Young plays the role of a beautiful young modiste's mode!, posing in society as a'.There is nearly a tragedy when she is about to marry a young man who is unaware of her deception.
