CENTRAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
A meeting of the Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday. Mr. C. SI. Luke presided, and there were also present Messrs. A. Leigh Hunt, W. B. Bennett, H., Rogers, L. Nelson, and J. F. Atkins.' The chairman reported that he had instructed (the secretary to forward to the National Efficiency Board tho resolution passed at last meeting, calling the attention of the Government to the necessity for restricting the importation onon-essenGal goods.—The chairman's action was confirmed. Mr. F. O'Neil, of Messrs. Davidson and Co., exporters and motor importers, was elected a .member of the chamber.
The financial statement showed that the cash at the 'bank was £10 155.; that the sum of £5 3s. was. due for lettings, and £119 14s. due for subscriptions. Mr. A. Leigh Hunt brought under the notice of the chamber the good objects of the Forestry League, suggesting that the chamber ought to support the new league, and join in the movement to encourage tree-planting, and to 'conserve the forests we have. It was decided in the end that Mr. Hunt give notice 'of motion on this subject. ■
