DEATH OF LORD MUNCA'STER. ( London,' March 31. Tho death is announced of Lord Muncaster, who was connected with the extraordinary brigand ti-agedy at Marathon on Anril 21, 1870. —Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn. ' TJosslyn Francis Pennington, fifth: Baron.Muncaster (born 1884) was raised to the Peerage in 1898. He sat in the House of Commons for Cumberland seats for several yoars. Ho served in the Rifle Brigade, and wasv long connectcd with Cumberland and Yorkshire Volunteer Lord Muncaster served in tho Criniea, and was at the storming of the Redan. !An audacious act of brigandage was committed in April,; 1870, by Greeks, who captured.ii party of Englishmen who haid gone' to view, tho historic battleground /where Miltiades overthrew the invading Persian army oE invasion of Darius in ;490 b.o. Tho captives included Lord Muiicaster, the Duke of Manchester, and four men'(Herbert. Lloyd, Vyner, au<s Boyle) connected with Hho British Legation. , Mnncaster was , released on payment of £2000 tansom. The British Government held tho Greek Administration responsible for the outrage, and the latter made tho blunder of sending an armed force, which tried to surround the brigands. The robbers thereupon killed all the hostages, whose bodies were subsequently recovered and taken to Athens for burial.] ■<>
