A Russian offioial communique 6tates: —"On our 1 western front German attacks past Illutsk and north-west of Postavy, were repulsed. As "the result of a night attack on Boguohi, northwest of Krovo, the Germans'oooupied part of our trenches, but an imjnediate counter-attack restored the situation. _Wo attacked with gas on Stochod River, in the region of Boarovno. The New York "World's" correspondent at Potrograd says that yon Hin« denburg's plans were thwarted by a sudden thaw, which converted the Riga distriot into a vast fog, giving the Russians timo to prepare their do-fonces.—Aus.-N.Z.
