MOST BITTER ELECTION ON RECORD
NEW SOUTH WALES ELECTION BATTLE OVER SECTARIAN CRY RAISED (Rec. March 23, 8.45 p.m.) Sydney, March 23. Big rallies brought to a close one of the most bitter election campaigns on record. Towards the finisli the raising of the sectarian cry helped to further embitter the feeling and divide the parties. Besides the direct Nationalist and P.L.L. sections, each side carries a small wins, of Independents, who split the voiin: in ;i few electorates, which will -probably necessitate a second ballot, "1.-c aUctors generally appear So appreciate the situation as one of exceptional character, and tl;at issues most vital and far-reach-ing ; depend on to-morroiv's verdict. Surpluses are certain, and judging as far as possible from the very chaotic and volcanic condition of affairs, perhaps the greatest surprise, will be if the Nationalists have failed td retain the sympathy of the majority,of the voters. —Press Association.
