Kindergarten Produce Sale. _ The ladies of the Richmond Free Kindergarten Council, who organised yesterday's produce sale for the benefit of the Building Fund, were most successful in their appeal for produce, as the heavily laden stalls arranged in tho Concert Chamber of tho Town Hall bore witnoss to. Fruit, vogetaMes, G i?gs, poultry, butter, jani6, pickles, chu.tne.Vs, savouryj herbs of all descriptions, had been sent in in a most liberal manner, and better still thero appeared to _bo many buyers. Mrs. Gill, the president of the council, briefly introduced tho Mayoress, Mrs. J. P. Luke, who opened the sale after congratulating Mrs. Gill and her helpers Upon the excellent display of produce wliich had been collected. Tho council had set out to collect £2000 for the new building, which w&s very groatly needed, and Mrs. Luko thought there could not be a more worthy cause than that of providing a place in which tho foundations of future good citizenship should he laid. She mentioned the fact that a piece of land'had been secured in Taranaki Street on which to build a school, the present rooms in Taranaki Street not being nearly large enough for the many children who are desirous of entering the kindergarten. Each stall, with but two or three, exceptions, was in charge_ of residents of the different districts in which there were kindergartens, the Wellington South stall heing in charge of some of. the mothers who lived in that district, the Maranui stall in charge of Maranui residents,. Brooklyn likewise, and- so with the others, the members of the • council assisting or else being in charge, with various helpers. A stall for soft drinks was in charge of the Berhamporo Committee, Mrs. M. Eichelbaum had the bran tub, Lady Gibbes and Mrs. J. D. Gray were in charge of the flower stalk which was supplied with most beautiful flowers, and Miss Naomi Mantell and a number of. friends, had a cake and sweet stall. An excellent. idea was the parcols'stall, at which' everyone conld get their .purchases parcelled up ready for carrying. This was in charge of the kindergarten teachers. Mrs. M. Eichelbaum and Miss Seaton, the joint secretaries, had worked very energetically to secure the success of the nndertak- | ing, as also had tho members of the council. Mixed Blessings. . : To bo married and drawn in the ballot for military service on the same day was the- experience which fell to an Oaniaru. reservist on Tuesday (says tho "North Otago Times"). Doubtless tho telegram was received amongst others arriving..on the occasion with messages of a very different character; but it is stated that the military notice arrived just two hours beforo the time fixed for tho tying of the nuptial Imot, and yet in tho face of such a grave order the reservist and his fiancee proudly pledged themselves for better, for worse."

The monthly meeting of tho "Wei--lington Central Branch of Tlio "Women's Christian Temperance Union was, held yesterday afternoon in. the Y.M.C.A. rooms. Mrs. A. R. Atkinson, president of tho union, was elected delegate to tho forthcoming annual convention to be held in. Auckland on March 20. Tho uuion received with pleasure the assurance of tho Y.M.C.A. secretary that at none of their canteens, is there any supply or sale whatever of alconolio liquors.
Y.W.CA. Notes,
A. Mission Circle for studying the problems that confront the women of the East will be held in the Y.W.CA. on the second and fourth Tuesday evenings of each month. In view of the changes that aro coming so rapidly in the lives of Eastern women, the Y.W.CA. is faced with the question of how it can help theso women to take their part in the service of their country. Women are needed with experience and organising ability, and ■with an unfailing faith in the power of Christianity to meet the needs of. all nations.
The general secretary of the Y.W.CA., Miss Florence Birch, will give the address at the Club Rooms, Herbert Street, to-morrow afternoon at 4.16, and Mrs. M'Clay will continue to lead the Bible study on the Revelation at 3 p.m. AIL girls, especially strangers in the city, will be welcome at tho afternoon service.
Classes for millinery, dressmaking, first aid, shorthand and speed, will open nest week on Mondav and Wednesday, at the Y.W.CA., 'if there is a sufficient enrolment.
The National Secretary of the Y.W.CA., Miss Helen F. Barnes, icturns to her homo in America this month, having completed her term of office in the Commonwealth and the Dominion. For fivo years Miss Barnes has been out hero, and in a very large measure she has pioneered the national Y.W.C.A. work in Australasia. The national Y.W.CA. is now not only firmly established, but its policy stands clearly defined, and its raach'inerv is running smoothly.

A quiet wedding took place at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral on Wednesday morning, the Rev. A. M. Johnson officiating, when William, eldest, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Langdon, of Gisborae, and grandson of the late Captain Langdon, R/N., of Tasmania, was married to Alice Jean Cecile, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. F. Richardson, of Aii-lie, Oriental Bay. An enjoyable variety entertainment was riven on Thursday evening by the Brooklyn Sercnaders in Messrs. Mooro Bros.' Hall, Johnsonvillo, kindly lent for theioceasfan, in. aid of tho Johnsonvillo Patriotio Eutertninment Fund. Tho following contributed items: —W. M'Kinstry, 1!. Buchanan, F. Brown, D. Duff, A. Pioltott, K. Barnott, H. Biggs, AV. Munley, and E. M'Fiirlano, C. Dalton and S. Smith were tho accompanists. At the conclusion of tho concert Mr. F. Mooro thanked the performers for thoir kind services, and the audience showed their appreciation by giving three hearty choers. As tho result of this concert the fund has benefited to tho extent of £10.
