NEH ZEIIAND NURSES. By Telegraph-Press Associatiou-Copyriclit (Rec. March 4, 11.15 p.m.) London, March 4. A War Office dispatch mentions the valuable services of the following New Zoaland nurses:—C. Anderson, V. "Bell, Beswiok, Grigor, Haste, A. Mackay, V. M'Lean, J. M'Crac, 7t?euierell, Poplewell, Stuoker, Wilkin, and A. Wood.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Aesn.-Reuter. Mrs. H. Morrison and Mrs. N. James, who motored through to New Plymouth to attend the Agricultural Show, left on their return to Masterton on Friday. Dr, and Mrs. Edgar left Napier on Friday on a visit to the South Island. The marriage took place on January 2, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Wnubledon, of Donald Maogregor Reid, N.Z.F.A., and Miss Elizabeth Barr Fergus. The bridegroom belongs to Milton, and is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Reid. The bride is the youngest daughter of the lato Hon. Thomas Fergus and Mrs. Fergus, of Eoyal Terrace, Dunedin.
The number of cases, most of them largo ones, sent out during the months of January and February from the Christchuroh branch of the Red Cross should arouse more than a passing interest. In, January 219/ cases of goods were sent away from the sheds, and in February 135. These make a total of 354 cases for the two months, and include 136 cases of comforts for ■hospitals, abroad, 85 cases of hospital requisites, and 13G of garments, the whole being-valued at about £2876.. In addition to these figures, every week 8 or 10 cases of comforts are sent to Hanmer, and overy few days supplies of cakes, tartlets, fruit, etc., are sent to the military ward of the Christchurch Hospital.
Writing privately to a friend in a letter received by a recent mail, Captain | T, E. Donne, of the High Commissioner's office, London, mentions that Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lauri (Miss May Beattio) had just called, and that Mr. Lauri had obtained tho Christ-church-composed Maori song, "Haere Tonu" (Hoben-Horno) for production in a revue.
Miss Edith Howes, the popular writer of "The Cradle SEfp" and other children's books, who is leaving Gore for Wellington, was entertained by a number of friends in Goro (says an exchange). Reference was made to Miss Howes's work in the southern town,' particularly in connection with her presidency of the Girls' Literary Club, which she ruled with tact and sympathy: On behalf of those pre- 1 sent, two finely-bound volumes wero presented.to the guest of honour.
